01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Adapted for the cafe from Tsuruya Yoshinobu's classic confection Tubara Tubara, Nama Tubara gently dissolves the boundary between Japanese and Western sweets with every bite. Tucked inside a delicate yet springy baked pancake is a smooth, velvety white bean paste enriched with mascarpone cheese, yielding a cream-like melt in the mouth. Alongside standard flavors such as plain vanilla, matcha, aromatic rum raisin, and refreshing yuzu, a changing lineup of seasonal limited-edition offerings is also available.

For dining in, the Nama Tubara (2 pieces) with Drink set—which allows you to choose 2 favorite flavors—is a satisfying option. Beverage choices include Tubara Coffee, an original blend roasted by Circus Coffee in Kitayama, Kyoto, as well as cold-brew iced coffee, caramel-and-fig-scented Tubara Tea, and fragrant hot hojicha. When choosing just one or two is too difficult, the 5-flavor tasting set offers an indulgent way to savor and compare subtle differences across multiple varieties on a single plate.

Despite being situated at the busy Horikawa Imadegawa intersection, the cafe's white-accented interior looks out through large windows onto lush garden greenery, wrapped in a peaceful calm that lets you forget the surrounding city. Guests can relax at spacious tables while gazing at the garden, and because Nama Tubara is also available boxed to take away, it makes a convenient souvenir to pick up during a stroll through Kyoto.
